Florencio yau

Ruitao You 游瑞涛 (Soeitou Yau / Florencio) is a composer, pianist, and keyboardist known for his exploratory approach to contemporary music. With mother languages of Cantonese and Mandarin, as well as a background spanning multiple languages and cultures, he integrates diverse influences into his creative work. His musical practice encompasses contemporary experimental and neo-classical instrumental music, electroacoustics, and AI-assisted sound arts. A key focus of his work is the integration of linguistics and phonetics with music, creating innovative soundscapes that explore the intersection of language and art.

Driven by a desire to evoke synesthetic experiences and convey philosophical ideas through music, Florencio employs unconventional techniques, including algorithmic approaches and spectralism. His academic background spans both the arts and sciences—before fully committing to composition, he studied materials chemistry at South China Normal University, an experience that inspired him to approach music, science, and other disciplines with a critical mindset, weaving them together into his own musical language. He later pursued composition at the Xinghai Conservatory of Music and is currently completing a second master's degree in composition at the Royal Northern College of Music.

Florencio's compositions have been recognized internationally, with highlights including performances at the Transient Synesthesia concert and multimedia art show in Guangzhou, China, in 2023, and the orchestral work Desire, Attraction, and Non-gravitational Force, performed by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and RNCM performers in Manchester, UK, in 2024. His piece Dispersing Branches was featured by the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra at the Sofia Symphonic Summit 2024.

Beyond his compositional work, Florencio is also an educator with six years of experience in music teaching. He is currently a tutor of composition and orchestration at a music education institute, guiding students in contemporary music techniques and orchestration practices.

Throughout his career, Florencio has studied with distinguished composers and educators, including Michael Jarrell, Pierluigi Billone, Steven Daverson, Fang Li, Alexandra Karastoyanova-Hermentin, Peter Kerkelov, and Sam Salem. Their mentorship has significantly influenced his artistic development.
